In blended learning the focus is not so much on a single learning event, but rather on the appropriate combination of a variety of different learning experiences provided by self-study, ‘e-learning’, virtual training and coaching, traditional classroom training, individual coaching and a variety of follow-up activities. The potential benefits of a blended learning approach include:

• increased effectiveness and return on investment
• reduction in time wasted travelling to and from the place of training
• greater freedom for participants to work at their own time and pace
